[ale] OT: laser printer cartridges

I can't speak about HP, but the mortgage company for which I worked transitioned 
to all Brother HL-1440 machines (b&w).  We used cheapo reman. cartridges and 
drums.  The cost savings were enough to offset the severely diminished lifespan 
of the machine.  However, the print quality suffered quite a bit, too, but no 
one cared as long as it was legible.  And for the "duh" statement: YMMV.

Keep in mind, too, that compared to the cost of inkjet, those cartridges are a 
pretty good deal.  IIRC also, the HP cartridges come with a drum built-in to the 
cartridge.  3K+ copies from each cartridge for $100 comes out to about 3 cents 
per page of full-color goodness.  Cheaping out may save you a penny or two per 
page, but you may be doing so at the expense of the hardware and perhaps print 
quality.
