It is certainly possible in the Windows world--many of my colleagues here 
at work do it.  In general it is possible with Linux/XFree, but there is 
the ever present annoying issue of hardware support.  This feature is 
supported under Linux for some chipsets and not supported for others.  
I've found information on this extremely hard to find.

All I can say is to try.  Google for words like "multi-head" "dual-head" 
and "xinerama" along with "xfree".  There are some xinerama howtos that 
may help some.

If you have any success, please let me know.  I'm going to be trying to do 
it on and 8500 soon and maybe they will be similar.
