[ale] large file xfer challenges

Thanks Geoffrey. Will check this out and share the info with the winblows 
victims I meet.

On closer investigation the RAR package that Douglas Bridges recommended also 
looked interesting, except that it is not GPL :-(.

I'm still reasearching the Data DVD question so I can just avoid these 
splitting headaches [grin] altogether... at least until my files are greater 
than 4.4 gig.
