[ale] Failing device?

Does it behave after a reboot for awhile or after you physically switch
cables around? Let's separate the physical from the software. The logs
suggest to me that you have device number three going bad on its
electronics. I've gotten timeouts like that when a controller, or a
drive was going bad. Also, I've gotten messages about timeouts when a
cable was too long or the connection to the device was erratic.
Certainly, you ought to pull that tape drive and see if your messages
go away. Reinstall the tape drive, disconnect the others and see if all
you get is problems.
