[ale] nfs problems

I am stumped if the UID and GID permissions make sense.  Also, try
listing the tar archive to see what is in it.  I am sorry I can't help
more.  I know that since you can create a directory during the untarring
that you have write permissions above the created directory but how
about below?  Is the directory being created allowing files to be
written into it by you?  You may need to specify to tar *not* to
preserve permissions which is default when root since you are assumed
when root as being able to write anywhere which in a NFS mounted file
system is not the case.
