I seem to have misunderstood what you originally wrote...and was responding
to BIOS limitations rather than enabled/disabled options.  True, if the
device is set to be disabled, then it should be.  I.E., if I turn off a
serial port, then it should be gone, and from my experience, it is.  So it
would seem that the BIOS/motherboard is not properly disabling the device if
linux is still able to see it...I don't think linux could see the last
secondary controller that I had disabled in the BIOS (a Microstar board)...
