[ale] conversion of PictureIt format

digital camera buffs:

My brother-in-law, a poor Microsoft user, has sent me all his photos in
Microsoft's PictureIt (.mix) format.

This seems to be a proprietary format and I know it's in PictureIt format
because I did a hex dump on one of the .mix images.

I have not been able to find any graphics converter for this format.  At this
point, any format OTHER than PictureIT format is all that I ask for.  

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.
