[ale] Linux ABI

A friend of mine that works for a software company that is interested in making
their intergrated development environment support linux is looking for a
spec document that describes the ABI (application binary interface) used in 
Linux?  Things like stack order on function calls, preserved registers, data 
object layout and alignment.  They could grab that from the GCC sources, but 
want to avoid doing it the hard way.
