you'll need to do this: 
1) upgrade automake.  I think that will fix the last bit
2) set a shell var that looks like this:
AC_INCLUDE="-I/usr/local/share/aclocal"
or something like that - if someone else remembers the exact variable name
to set please chirp up now...
