TL;DR - get 16.04.1 and stay with that until support for most of the
packages ends in 2021.

             Longer Version

Ubuntu 16.04.1 released

The first .1 release has had full LTS (2021) support without needing to
migrate to the .2, .3, .4, or .5 releases which are usually for HW
updates. Stay on this (16.04.1) version if you want to stay on the 4.4.x
kernel and avoid required updates every 6-9 months like .2, .3, .4, .5
versions will require.

BTW, Ubuntu 15.10 support ends next week.

To understand more about Ubuntu support (especially which kernels get
longer support) http://www.ubuntu.com/info/release-end-of-life and
scroll down.

The ubuntu-support-status cmd will help to see which packages have
support for how long with Ubuntu. For example, 6% of the packages
running on a 14.04.1 server support expired last Feb. Another 6+% of the
packages supported ends in 2017. The vast majority don't loose support
until May 2019 (this is a 14.04 LTS server install).
