Also do a comparison using Firefox on the tablet.  I find on my S4 phone
that Firefox is a little less troublesome than Chrome.  I do know that
Firefox can start up in a blank mode (it starts up with its bookmark
list rather than the last page).  I run mine with Adblock Plus,
Ghostery, and Self-Destructing Cookies.  Unless the page is graphics
intensive which fills up the RAM cache it stays pretty responsive.
