I think CO detectors are required on every level by Code in GA. It is "Carbon
Monoxide" after all. ;) Have one in the upstairs hallway outside all the
bedrooms (below the gas furnaces in the attic) and one in the garage about 10 ft
away from the gas water heater.

Our CO and fire units are powered by the grid, with a battery backup. No need to
change annually, but definitely replace the entire unit every 10-yrs as the CO
detector parts do have a limited lifespan.

BTW - an easy way to remember stuff like this is with your home calendar. Just
put entries in for future events the same way you enter b-days. When you move
calendar systems, don't forget to export all the entries for the next calendar
system to import. Been doing this since I got a PalmPilot in the mid-90s.

For example, yesterday had "trim trees and shrubs" on my calendar and Saturday
was "Weather Stripping day" here. Having these reminders means no normal house
maintenance items are forgotten - I choose NOT to do them. ;) Next week is the
annual water heater flush.
