[ale] Ubuntu in Oracle's VirtualBox (not)

John, 
I forgot to ask, what was the host OS anyway?  If Linux you can use something called KVM and virt manager to hosts vms that *may* be easier to use. Then again, it may not be. In Windows I use virtualbox, but if in Linux I always use virtmanager.
