If that happened to you I suspect you didn't set them up right.   I've been using LVM for years with very few issues and none that caused data loss.

I have twice implement LVM while installing a new instance of Mint and Ubuntu and both times within a week, the volumes were corrupt. I had to pretty much start over with normal partitions.  No thanks.
