[ale] Linux Mint 17 Not Recognizing Printer Device

The version of hplip I'm running is 3.14.3-0ubuntu3.2

Jim,
     The kernal version I'm running is 3.13.0-24-generic.

While I'm willing to update my hplip version, the USB issues bothers me 
more.

Suggested approaches?
