[ale] What to do about non-cooperative SMARTD drive?

I've never fully trusted OEM software after a brand new WD snafu left a
drive totally lifeless.

I must have blinked on the "test refuses to run" part. So, yeah, I'd run to
the nearest trustworthy drive store and get a replacement drive ASAP. That
sounds like the board is failing. As long as you can get data off the
board, yay! Once that board goes dark, you'll need an identical on to
extract anything from the drive.

James P. Kinney III

Every time you stop a school, you will have to build a jail. What you gain
at one end you lose at the other. It's like feeding a dog on his own tail.
It won't fatten the dog.
- Speech 11/23/1900 Mark Twain
