Why not just remove the username list from the login screen all 
together? You didn't mention which login manager you're using but if 
it's just gdm add the following to 
/etc/dconf/db/gdm.d/01-custom-gdm-settings:

     disable-user-list=true

then run `dconf update` and restart gdm
