I've been using a Netgear WNR2000v4 I bought at Microcenter in Jan.  My recollection was that it was in your price range.

I rather like management interface and the fact I can block all devices except the ones I want (it sees the connections then allows me to add them to allowed devices) both wired and wireless.

Unfortunately I can't comment as to range as my condo is all on single level.  I can say that with most of my neighbors having wifi I've yet to see any kind of interference from them affecting my connections.   The Belkin I used to have dropped me on a fairly regular basis after 2-3 hours of use.

Will post results Ed, if there is anything statistically significant.

So far I just have JD and he didn't have a stock software model recommendation because the word is out that most router companies have been building back doors into their products for years.  His one after thought suggestion was that Buffalo models might be a choice since they come with DD-WRT installed.
