To answer y'all, I installed from the RPMs from the LO download site
as F18 repo only has 3.6.x that I could find. I have a need for the
newer version for calc. My wife's travel expense form Excel Template
works better in 4.x.x It would take as long as 5min to load in 3.x.x
and would eat up memory. I don't seem to have that problem in 4.x.x

The LO list actually provided a work-around in that for Fedora 18 I
had to install an older version of libpng, libpng12 specifically. Once
I did that it worked fine, happier than a pig eatin' $???. I was going
to remove 3.6 and then decided against it subscribing to the
philosophy of "If it ain't broke don't fix it." The actually fix is
using LO 4.1 but I wasn't quite sure about using an Alpha release,
although it probably works better than another company's (not
mentioning any names) actual release.
