Stove/Oven is electric, as is the Dryer.
Nancy likes the smell of air-dried things, so a lot of time things are
hung on the solar powered clothes dryer, which on our house is off the
deck, > 20 ft in the air. The water heater is gas, as is part of our heat,
it's a heat pump with gas. The gas (propane tank) also fuels the
generator. Summer gas usage is negligable, last years fill up was about
$500. Nancy likes it warm in the winter, so we suck it up and heat the
house.. I'm comfortable in the low 60's.

One of the reasons I bought this house was it's ability to naturally cool.
During much of the year we just open the windows, a cool breeze flows down
the mountain I'm on the side of and through the house.

Semi-on topic: I've been self-employed a lot, and having a cheap efficient
place to live allows me to survive those "the check is coming" moments
without freaking out. It is possible to make a living as a Linux nutcase,
but you have to be creative.
