[ale] [OT] Groklaw shuts down due to potential "forced exposure" issues

It's not the parties. It's the money. The congress critters fund the
military-industrial complex which takes huge chunks of that money and hands
it back to the politicians to keep funneling the cash their way. Wall
Street does the same thing. We all know the only way to bring this crap to
an end is total transparency but that won't happen. If everyone could see
who was in what pocket, all hell would break loose. The sane parts of both
Occupy Wall Street and the Tea Party are barking at the same problem from
opposite ends. Wall Street is NOT the economy and a constant state of war
does NOT create peace and tranquility anywhere.

And it's not the money of being in office. It's what happens outside the
official "in office" stuff. The power and influence is more addictive than
any drug. One has to wonder about an election where more money is spent to
get the seat than the seat pays fro the term. There's a much bigger payout
from somewhere.

I am just cynical enough to see the connections between the underfunding of
schools to create a large enough constant "voluntary" military force due to
no other options. The blue-collar jobs are flying away overseas so what
used to go to those jobs, now goes to the army because there's nothing else
to do.

Maybe if we had a tax system allowed people to keep whatever amount of
their (no deductions AT ALL) income based on where they are on the income
scale - so the bottom keeps their 99% and pays 1% and the top keeps 1% and
pays 99%. If the backroom deals didn't have constant access to enough cash
to feed all of Africa for a year, maybe we wouldn't have such a polluted
government policy landscape.

I've been a dreamer...
