The NSA fully embraced using Linux a long time ago. It was their need that
lead to the development of the selinux kernel patch that is used to lock
out users from various areas of the system.

which begs the question: just _how_ did a contractor get access when NSA is
supposed to be using selinux internally and should NOT be using contractors
for "all access" positions?

Everyone in IT (Linux at least) has been aware of the ability to capture
nearly everything done by everyone for a very long time. The "shock" factor
is for the media and general public and uninformed congress critters what
capabilities exist and how thin the line is between "anti-terrorism" and
<name your worst fear population control/enforcement/spying method>.

<soapbox>
It's not going to get better until it gets much, much worse. Until congress
critters are in the spotlight accused of misplaced loyalties based on
meta-data inferences, the data collection will continue unabated. And even
that event may come too late to avoid a total erosion of trust that anyone
in power gives a shit about the rest of us.
</soapbox>

*Every time you stop a school, you will have to build a jail. What you gain
at one end you lose at the other. It's like feeding a dog on his own tail.
It won't fatten the dog.
