My last job was with XM Satellite Radio as a Broadcast Systems &
Applications Technician (basically a Systems Engineer). As such we were
responsible for development, direct support, maintenance and general
administration of all server and workstation systems in all of XMSR
Broadcast Operations. This included all of the servers and players in
the Technical Operations Center (TOC) in Washington, DC. This is the DC
for all of OPS in XM. My group (myself and two other guys) were always
planning on moving into the DC for billeting; but we never got around to
it. Stayed in quarters with Broadcast Technical Support (BTS) in their
shop area on the wall facing Eckington Place NE. My office window faced
FedEx (toward New York Avenue) and had a much better view than I would
have had in the TOC. (The only "window seat" I would have there was
Microsoft Windows -- yuck!!) That DC was very LOUD and rather on the
cool side! Would have to have worn hearing protection and a coat at all
times.

Kinda glad we never moved in there....

Ah, how I do miss some of the good ole' days....but each job has it's
own charm and XM did have it's very own. But XM has faded into history
and I'm on a new page now and don't have to play in a loud DC anymore!
