Gnome 3.4 in F17 is little more palatable with a couple of shell
plugins. I don't have it in front of me right now but there is a group
of 5 plugins packaged together that makes it so. They return the
bottom panel/task manager, along with static # of workspaces, the old
Apps menu (although it works a little different form the one in gnome
2.x), returns shutdown to the user menu. Is it perfect? Hell no but a
lot better than 3.0 or 3.2. Now the gripes of the fixes. You can't
change the order of the app buttons on the panel. I like my apps in a
certain order and if I accidentally close one and I reopen it the
button will be at the end of the line. (Okay so I'm a little OCD I'm
also ADD, get over it, I did ;-/) Also right clicking has the same
effect as left clicking does to the buttons, you used to be able to
pull up an action menu when you right clicked the button. To find this
package just search on Fedora's Forums for Gnome Shell Plugins. I do
know that using others along with these 5 can cause problems, it gets
a little flaky. I wound up removing all plugins and then reinstalling
this package of 5 and my problems cleared up.

I personally don't see the "greatness" of UNITY I tried it with Ubuntu
12.04. I quickly applied the fix for system problems with Mafia$oft
Windblow$, fdisk, reformat and reinstall another flavor of Linux.
