And of course as mentioned every time this has come up - Home Depot has bins near the entries for these CFLs.

Now I'll wait for the inevitable rehash discussion of whether Home Depot also takes fluorescent tubes.

No I won't - I'll recapitulate:
1) Some Home Depots say they do.
2) Some Home Depots say they don't.
3) Some people think they *know* the answer for ALL Home Depots despite the experience of others on this list that have gotten either answer 1 or answer 2 at specific Home Depot locations.
4) Some people put the tubes there and aren't challenged so long as they didn't ask even if they've previously been told it wasn't taken.

At one time, at least, IKEA had a bin in the lighting area for dead
CFLs.  Probably still there, but I haven't checked in a while.
