[ale] Linux alternative recommendation ?

Jim,

Thanks for the suggestions... not by me previously considered.

Suggestions for information on how to configure the "several distros all 
sharing a /home and selectable from grub" ?

Also, which distros do you recommend and why ?

I do have a cd drive and also like that idea cum thumb drive, again not 
considered. Glad I asked  :-)
