Yes. I clearly wasn't paying attention and/or reading the `df` output correctly.

I have a VM with 1GB of RAM dedicated to it. The guest OS is Debian:

$ df -h
Filesystem            Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda2             7.5G  5.5G  1.6G  78% /
tmpfs                 506M     0  506M   0% /lib/init/rw
udev                  501M  108K  501M   1% /dev
tmpfs                 506M     0  506M   0% /dev/shm

So, we can assume 4GB isn't a universal default :)
