[ale] windoze scripts to linux scripts

For questions like this I sometimes refer to this site:
http://ss64.com/index.html  It is not comprehensive, but has references for
multiple operating systems.  If you lookup a command in windows there is
often a cross reference to an equivalent bash command at the bottom.  It is
a little hit or miss, and 'equivalent' is not my choice of words, but it has
been handy on a few occasions.
