[ale] OT: Disposal of standard fluorescent lamps?

All of the CFL bulbs that I have purchased didn't last anywhere close to 10
years.  What I need to find out is how to dispose of a couple of old
White-Rodgers thermostats that contain mercury.  I hope the new digital ones
last as long as those things.  Replacing batteries once a year shouldn't be
too bad, but it is still maintenance that I have to do.
