You REALLY need to check out Jungledisk ( http://jungledisk.com ), which
uses S3. I've been using it for over 1 year. Very slick. Easy to use if
you do the basics, but very configurable. On any software like this, I'd
go through all the config options anyway and verify it's what you want.
Works in Windows and Linux. Not sure about Mac. Once you set it, you can
mostly forget it. Storage is about $0.15 / Mo. / GB. I back up 4
computers using the philosophy, back up everything, and every new thing,
unless it's excluded. That's on Windows. I exclude system files, etc. On
Linux, I think I'm just backing up my home directory, but that would
include all sub folders. I may have to reconsider anything that's not
getting backed up. Anyway, I've got a lot of data there. I pay about $
15 / mo. You do pay for data transfer, so, the first time everything
uploads, there is a spike in the bill. But not too much thereafter. If
you get the right plan, it will only upload the changed parts of files.
So, on an ongoing basis, there's not too much to upload. If you or
anyone needs help configuring this application, I'd be glad to help.

(PS - If you email me and don't get a quick response, you might want to
call on the phone. I get about 300 emails per day from alternate energy
mailing lists and such. I don't always see new messages very quickly.)
