The definitive test is, "does smbclient work".

$ smbclient -L //NETBIOS-HOST-OR-IP

That will pull a listing of all of the exposed shares.

NetBIOS naming nay not work in all cases from Linux, particularly if the
Samba dæmon(s) are not running on the system you are browsing from.  In
that case, it's possible that you'll have to use IP addresses or names
that are in the DNS on your LAN.
