[ale] Help creating a LUG at SPSU

Thanks for the heads up on the conference. I think it will be
interesting. I will do my best to make it.

As far as reviving NW, I am not sure that reviving ALE NW as the
official SPSU group is the best way to go.

I have found an academic advisor for the group; however, and his name is
Orlando Karam. We had a brief discussion and we thought it might be
best to run a SPSU LUG as a student organization, as there are certain
formalities that must be fulfilled, and arrange for a time a place for
ALE NW to meet on the SPSU campus. It may also work out in favor of
both groups. The student organization will not be limited to student
members only, but only students will be able to vote or hold office.
Hopefully that will not discourage anyone from attending our meetings
and functions.

If the meetings of the two groups are held two weeks apart, ALE NW on
whatever week they choose (and at night probably) and the SPSU LUG two
weeks off (and maybe during the day), it will give students two
opportunities to learn about linux. It will also give ALE a new NW
home, and hopefully increase activity in the two groups.

Potentially the two groups could work together on events like Linux
fests and Install fests. Also, from speaking with Aaron, there is the
idea of earning money for the SPSU LUG by accepting donations of wornout
computers, refurbishing then within reason, and selling them to students
for $25 with a full linux package installed and ready to go. It
wouldn't hurt to find a sponsor or two and pursue other fund raising
opportunities. It would be really cool to have the group travel
somewhere for a big regional or national Linux convention.

Also offering education services to students for free, such as a hands
on seminar on how to take a computer or laptop apart and what all the
pieces are, would be fun. There are lots of options available as long
as people can be found that are willing and able to participate.

Thanks again everyone for your willingness to help.
