[ale] Hello World - in C# - in Mono - in Ubuntu is done

I'm sure many fine FOSS projects could be implemented in C#. That said,
in terms of a career move, just know that with C# you are by and large
fencing yourself inside the pay-to-play windows enterprise world. If
that's where you want to work then be my guest. Enjoy the reboots. In
contrast, Java (and yes I know there's little love for Java on this list
so spare me) has much deeper and established inroads to FOSS and *nix
platforms as well as windows. It seems to me even LAMP would be much
more fertile ground career-wise.

I once had a manager who, referring to microsoft, said something like
"when you're dealing with an 800lb gorilla in the room it's best to play
nice". To which I replied "Fine. Play nice when you must. Just don't
forget that your well-being really depends on getting the hell out of
that room." Because it doesn't matter how nice you play, sooner or later
that gorilla's going to hump you.
