Get rid of insserv, then try continuing the upgrade.  Current-generation
Ubuntu systems do not use SysV init anymore, they use the upstart init
dæmon.  I suspect that if you remove (but do not purge in-case you need
to rollback) the insserv package, you should be able to proceed forward.
