[ale] converting old 8mm film to dvd

can't recall the exact search params (it may be a Linux journal article),
but I saw a linux-based rig that used a epson scanner, some motors and a
fair amount of cpu horsepower to pull film through a custom bracket on the
scanner, scan in the strip (5+ frames at a time), use the holes in the strip
to key in on the frames, isolate the frames digitally, generate a sequence
of video frames and then stitch it all together as a mpeg.
