Hey James,

What is strange is that when I add in the uid and gid as you have
illustrated I get a mount error.

fstab:
LABEL=firelite /media/firelite  auto rw,exec,user,uid=1000,gid=1000
0 0

Here is the error:
[14:44:08 myuser at megaton$] mount firelite
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
       dmesg | tail or so
[/media]
[14:44:37 myuser at megaton$32]

Here is what I found in dmesg:
[12300.997351] EXT3-fs warning: maximal mount count reached, running e2fsck
is recommended
[12300.997990] EXT3 FS on sdb1, internal journal
[12300.998000] EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode.
[13240.544367] EXT3-fs: Unrecognized mount option "uid=1000" or missing
value
[13291.153157] CE: hpet increasing min_delta_ns to 15000 nsec

It is as if uid=1000 is not a valid option for an ext3 filesystem.
