Try to not worry about it. There are jerks everywhere.

The first (and last) Linux meeting I attended was in Atlanta at 'The
Linux Store'. I remember being very excited about the idea of talking
to a group of people that shared my interest in this wonderful operating
system. Immediately after work I rushed right over.

Things were going well and then I noticed several people in an adjacent
room talking about various Linux distos and what they were doing with
them. I sat in an empty seat and listened, all the while hoping to
glean some new information.

Then some jackass across the room points at me then says, "...that's why
I do this. I not going to wind up like him... some joke in a tie..."
and several others nodded in agreement. (I had been in meetings earlier
that day and didn't change clothes, although I DID leave my tie in my truck)

Against my first impulse I quietly stood up and carefully threw my trash
away, then headed to the door. One of the workers/facilitators by the
door said, "hope you found this meeting helpful."

I just gave a quick smile and walked out.

Since then I don't evangelize about the "wonder's of Linux". Basically
if someone notices my laptop/netbook and asks me what I'm running I'll
tell them, but I don't debate which operating system is 'better' because
I do not honestly care.
