I don't think this is a virus problem.  The file was created on a Mac with 
the current OS using the latest (and greatest!!) version of Word. Yet the 
printer queue on the Mac gagged on the file and wouldn't send it on to the 
network printer.  So she emailed it to me and the same thing happened on 
my machine.

It is as if there is some sort of metadata that is screwing up the works. 
I have no trouble saving other .doc files to other formats, such as .pdf or 
.odt.  Only I can't do that with this particular file.

For the record, I was able, finally, to Save As .html and then convert that 
to .odt and print it.  But, good grief!

Further experimentation profits a clue:  the file name.  If I rename the 
file, THEN I can save it in another format.

original file name: <TheateratEmorymission12:10.doc>

Is there something in there (the : for example) that would screw up the 
works.  And why would the print spooler give a damn about the file name?
