[ale] gpg2 --gen-key requires password which it won't take or use

Am I going blind? gpg2 --gen-key never asks for a passphrase for the new key
generation and yet it fails to create a key pair grousing about no password
AND there is no flag to append a password without being it batch mode which
is not allowed in the key-gen phase.
