[ale] Need help loading sound driver

I had a similar problem. Looked at

System/Preferences/Sound

and played around with the tabbed box until I got everything working.
Never did get Skype to work with the built-in microphone -- had to go to a 
combo headphones/microphone that plugged into the usb port.
