Laughing.. that'll get you the first class treatment for sure.

I've been travelling a lot to odd (non-touristy) places with a lot of
strange gear, I now just tell them up front, with a big grin:
You'll want to inspect those.

Best response at Hartsfield: The pelican case full of gear that looks like
a bomb from a dia-hard movie: complete with a big round electric meter
with an LCD display, odd wiring, industrial cases - hits the X-Ray
machine. Somewhere a button is pressed because two big guys step up behind
me, a smaller guy grabs the case and carefully moved it to the inspection
table. I'm grinning and laughing a little. He opens it up, looks inside,
doesn't touch a thing and says: "I have no idea what I am looking at"
closes up the case and says "Have a nice trip".

Makes me feel safer.. :)

Best security yet: Dominica (not Dominican Republic).
They pass the bags through the x-ray machine.. on the other side, two nice
guys (but serious looking) open up the bags, run their hands through
everything, ask a lot of friendly conversational questions, put everything
back...this took 5+ minutes. and as I glimpsed around the corner, I
-think- the x-ray machine screens showed nothing as bags were being
passed through it. - I think it was the best bag/passenger check I'd ever
have.

Now if only I had the guts to make the Grub Boot Loader timer
show up in really large block letters....
