I'd be willing to bet that if Sun was able to negotiate that for Solaris
then IBM did for AIX as well already.  It also seems likely that any
such agreement might was when AT&T still owned UNIX.   Novell got it
fairly late (around 10 years ago or so - UNIX has been around for much
longer and I worked on both AIX and Solaris before Novell came into the
picture for UNIX).

The other thing is that Sun negotiated a one time payment to Novell
(or somebody) to never again pay
royalties on Unix again. IBM might want to grab ahold of that also...
Not the sole reason to do it, but it
wouldn't hurt either..
