If I can put at least one other body in my car to help justify
the drive time and fuel, then I'm up for the trip to Athens on
Sunday, March 22 (tomorrow) to help refurb and nux-imize
computers at Free IT from 1 to 5pm.

Details in the forward below. Please contact me by phone

Subject: Help Free IT Athens prepare 29 computers by March 29!
To: Free IT Athens Volunteers

At Free IT Athens, we have over 50 outstanding orders for refurbished
desktop computers. These computers have been requested by
organizations
such as the Child Care Resource and Referral of Northeast Georgia at
Athens, Athens Oconee Court Appointed Special Advocates,
Washington-Wilkes Animal Shelter, as well as numerous individuals.

VOLUNTEERS

Since Free IT Athens has no paid staff, volunteers like you and me are
what make all our operations possible. I'd like to issue a challenge
to
our volunteers who are interested in refurbishing computers: PREPARE
29
COMPUTERS BY MARCH 29TH! Doing this will really help us fill our
outstanding orders in a timely manner.

There are four open hours between now and the deadline:

Wednesday, March 18, 6-8
Sunday, March 22, 1-5
Wednesday, March 25, 6-8
Sunday, March 29, 1-5

All of these are at our new space in the Action Inc building at 594
Oconee St.

Please come to as many of them as you can and invite your friends!
Don't
worry if you haven't refurbished a computer with us before; there will
be experienced volunteers to show you how.

Of course, there is lots to be done at Free IT Athens that doesn't
involve refurbishing computers. If you're more interested in training,
fundraising, bookkeeping, public relations, etc. please contact us to
see how you can help!

DONATIONS

We can't continue to refurbish computers without raw materials and
tools. Even if you don't have time to volunteer, perhaps you have time
to check your closet and garage for equipment we could use. Below is a
list of what we're currently seeking:

* Desktop and laptop computers with a Pentium III or newer processor
* CRT and LCD Monitors
* PS/2 or USB Keyboards and Mice
* Memory (i.e. SD-RAM, DDR, DDR2, RD-RAM)
* PCI POST Diagnostic cards
* Network Switches
* Grounded power strips and extension cords
* Large Bakers Racks or similar shelving
* Computer Chairs
* Air Compressor or Vacuum (for removing dust from computers)
* Tools of all varieties (if it can open a computer, crimp a cable,
test
a part, etc. we probably want it)

All donations are tax-deductible. You will receive a receipt when you
bring your equipment to our space at 594 Oconee St. The best time to
donate is when Free IT Athens volunteers are present: Wednesday from
6-8
and Sunday from 1-5. However, the staff of the Economic Justice
Coalition can receive equipment for us from 9-3 Monday-Friday. If you
have more equipment to donate than you can transport yourself or you
represent an organization that regularly surpluses computer equipment,
please contact us and we'll make arrangements to help you donate.

REMEMBER: 29 COMPUTERS BY MARCH 29TH!
