I have this same problem.. it appears to be gnome-screensaver or one of it's
cohorts crashing, which throws up bug-buddy, which grabs the keyboard.

I just switch to another VT and log in, and killall either bug-buddy or
gnome-screensaver.

I'm using Fedora 10, and I've filed a bug with them..
