[ale] /proc/config.gz question

Hello, I run a stock distro kernel, and I wanted to apply some patches. If I use the /proc/config.gz file as my .config for the same version kernel, will I get an identical kernel to the one I run now (i.e. same bootsplash and everything)?
Also, unrelated, do I need to add the [ale] to the subject line, or is it auto-added?
