I will add that I also had a similar issue a while back. I bought a small 
CHEAP Frye's special CPU a few years ago, to be used as a test server. IT 
didn't stay up all the time, and I only used it to test a new installation. I 
know it was less than 2 years old when the power supply went out. I had the 
very same problem where it wouldn't boot, no BIOS or anything, until I 
unplugged the HD...
