[ale] Disk testing app wanted

I just want to find out if data can be written and read back from all cylinders. Simple data (all 1's then all 0's) would be fine. I tried an installation on this disk and the results were unstable from boot to boot.

What would you like to test for? The test will be different if you want
to, say, find out "Is this disk slower than my other disks?" than it would
be if you want to ask, "What sectors of the disk corrupt data? And is
that set consistent?"
