Sun released most of Java under the GPL as OpenJDK.
Red Hat filled in some of the gaps with GNU Classpath, got it to build
with GCJ, and released it as IcedTea.

Ubuntu has the package icedtea-java7-plugin, a "Java plugin based on
OpenJDK and gcjwebplugin", available for i386 and amd64. Fedora's name
for it is java-1.7.0-icedtea-plugin.
