[ale] cleaning out /tmp

It doesn't always take 2 year olds - I once had some operators reboot a
system while I was in the middle of some major operations in the middle
of the night.  On calling them to confirm they had done the reboot I
unfortunately neglected to hit the mute button on the speaker phone
before throwing my head back and expressing my *ahem* frustrated opinion
of their lack of sagacity...
