Also if you are going for KVM -> IP or serial console then you
should have intelligent power.  In our rack we have both.  Today one of
our servers was locked up.  The serial console gave me /dev/ttyS0
(console) access to a "dead" server.  Useless at that point.  Luckily I
was able to cycle power and using the console I was able to "Press
Control-D to continue:".  I never left my office and it took me 10
minutes to get the server back running.

I've never even called Quality Services to ask them to reboot a server
for me either.  I'm not sure I would know who to call but then again if
a power cycle does not fix my problems then I doubt they can either.

My point is that if you have equipment in a colo you need to cover your
console and you need to cover your power.
